Joint Investigations Lead to 13 Arrests for Gun, Drug Charges in Asheville Area

Tackling gun violence and drug trafficking is what led to the arrests of 13 people in a joint investigation in Asheville, North Carolina. Indictments resulting from multiple joint investigations involving federal prosecutors, the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Asheville Police Department have been announced.

Arrested Individuals and Charges

The names of the 13 individuals and the offenses pending against them are:

  • Darrien Quantael Cannady, 35, of Asheville, charged with distribution of a controlled substance containing cocaine base.
  • Aric Rashad Harper, 30, of Swannanoa, charged with possession of machineguns and a firearm as a convicted felon.
  • Eric Kelvin Hart, 42, of Asheville, charged with distribution of methamphetamine.

Statement from Authorities

In a press release, U.S. Attorney King highlighted the importance of collective efforts in removing drugs and illegal guns from neighborhoods to reduce violence and criminal activity. Asheville Police Department’s Captain Joe Silberman emphasized the dangerous modifications made to firearms by the arrested individuals, making them more lethal.

Capt. Silberman acknowledged the significant role of the community in assisting with the investigation through the anonymous tip line. He emphasized the community’s contribution in helping law enforcement tackle drug trafficking and illegal firearms activities in the Asheville area.
