Steve Dozier Steps Away from Henderson County Planning Board

Hendersonville, North Carolina

Steve Dozier, a long-time chair of the Henderson County Planning Board, has announced his decision to step down from his position on the board. Dozier, who has been a member of the board since December 2008, cited his desire to be heavily involved in the community as the reason for his initial appointment.

Having a background in real estate for nearly 23 years, Dozier felt that his experience could provide valuable insight into land use issues within the county. Over the past 15 years, he has served on the planning board, with the last 10 years spent as its chair.

Contributions to the Community

In addition to his role on the planning board, Dozier is actively involved in various other boards and committees in Henderson County, including the zoning board of adjustment, the economic partnership board, and the Community Foundation board of directors. He has dedicated his time and efforts to address the county’s needs and ensure responsible growth.

Reflecting on His Time on the Board

Looking back on his tenure on the planning board, Dozier recalled a pivotal moment when he cast the deciding vote against a developer looking to build 500 homes in the area. His decision ultimately prevented the developer from facing financial struggles during the recession, highlighting the importance of thoughtful planning and decision-making.

Dozier emphasized the significance of controlling growth in Henderson County amid increasing development pressures. He acknowledged the challenges faced by planning boards in the region and stressed the importance of making necessary adjustments to accommodate the county’s growth.

A Legacy of Service

As he steps away from the planning board, Dozier expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve Henderson County and stated his commitment to continue serving the community in any capacity possible. He described his time on the board as an honor and expressed his dedication to contributing positively to the county’s future.
