Swift Water Rescue Team Prepared for Action
In a commendable act of readiness and service, firefighters in Asheville are gearing up to assist statewide water rescues using a fleet of boats and a massive trailer. The rapid response team is on standby, ready to spring into action on receiving any distress calls across the state.
Deployment of the Rescue Team
One such crew has already been stationed in Martin County. Led by the Division Chief of Special Operations, Wesley Rogers, this versatile crew is prepared for any challenges thrown their way. They have with them a range of sturdy equipment, including four motorized boats and two paddle boats, all sturdily attached to trucks and set for deployment at a moment’s notice.
The fire department has strategically positioned the swift water rescue team throughout North Carolina, a decision made by the state’s emergency management agency. With a total of 18 members, this team is committed to saving those in perilous conditions.
Mission: Life Saving
“Our primary purpose is to help those who can’t help themselves. Be it a flooded house or a neighborhood overwhelmed by water, we possess the capacity to navigate our motor or paddle boats into these areas to evacuate them,” expressed Rogers, emphasizing the team’s altruistic mission.
He assures that things have remained calm for now, except for a few tornado warnings from adjoining cities.
State of Emergency Declared
However, the gravity of the situation has intensified with the city of Williamston and Martin County declaring a State of Emergency a little over an hour ago. This has escalated the state of readiness and preparedness among the rescue teams, putting them on high alert.

With the stark threat of flash flooding, citizens in the threatened regions are encouraged to follow emergency instructions and stay vigilant. High ground is advised for those in Cherokee and Spartanburg counties in South Carolina, as a Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 6 PM.
