As we approach an important time for our community, folks in Buncombe County are being reminded that, despite recent hardships, voting is very much on the agenda. Corinne Duncan, the director of Buncombe County Election Services, has been working tirelessly alongside her team to ensure that our community can express itself in this crucial decision-making process.
Voter Services Available
With the election just around the corner, it’s vital to know that Election Services is now open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to help you with all your voting needs. Although power is back in many places, we are aware that some areas still face water shortages. The team understands how significant these times are for everyone, and they’re doing their best to assist all voters, regardless of the challenges that may arise.
Important Election Dates
Mark your calendars! Early voting starts on October 17, and it’s never too early to prepare. If you prefer to vote by absentee ballot, that process is currently in motion. Remember, Election Day itself is scheduled for November 5, so plan ahead to make your voice heard.
Response to Challenges
Hearing the latest from the Election Services office, it’s clear the staff hasn’t allowed obstacles to deter their mission. They are currently assessing what facilities and poll workers will be available both for early voting and on the big day itself. Right now, their main focus is on ensuring early voting runs smoothly, as time is of the essence.
Fortunately, the Election Services office and its equipment were largely spared during recent events, which means they are able to serve our community effectively. The team is working closely with emergency responders and the State Board of Elections to adapt and modify plans as necessary.

If you want to stay informed and be part of the conversation, there’s a public meeting set for tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at 59 Woodfin Place in Asheville. Here, staff will begin processing absentee ballots and discuss any modifications needed for early voting. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more and share your thoughts!
