Asheville’s North Carolina Stage Company Set to Reopen
Asheville is buzzing with excitement as the North Carolina Stage Company prepares to reopen its doors after an unexpected closure. The local theatre, a beloved fixture in the community, had to halt its activities on September 27, 2024, just two weeks before its 22nd season was set to launch. The abrupt shutdown was a result of major utility outages downtown following the impact of Hurricane Helene. While the storm’s damage to the theatre building was minimal, the loss of essential services meant the cancellation of the season’s opening show.
Resilience and Rebirth
Fast forward to today, and we’re thrilled to announce that NC Stage is ready to reopen! The theatre is set to welcome audiences back with a heartwarming production that speaks to our shared humanity: All is Calm: the Christmas Truce of 1914 by Peter Rothstein. This touching true story, taking us to the Western Front during Christmas in 1914, tells of a remarkable moment when soldiers set aside their weapons to share songs and camaraderie in the midst of war.
It all starts when a German soldier steps into No Man’s Land, singing “Stille Nacht” (Silent Night). The narrative unfolds beautifully through the words and songs of the very men who lived this extraordinary experience, reminding us all of the peace that transcends conflict. This show is not just a performance; it’s a profoundly emotional story that families will cherish while visiting during the holiday season.

The production will run from November 29 to December 22 and will feature a talented cast that includes familiar faces from NC Stage, such as Adam Kampouris, Steve McConnell, and Willie Repoley, along with a dedicated eight-member choir. Given that our community is still navigating the aftermath of the hurricane, NC Stage is determined to make this event accessible for everyone. After November 11, ticket pricing for All is Calm will be offered on a sliding scale. Theatre-goers can choose a ticket price that suits their current situation, making it easier for everyone to experience this beautiful holiday story.
