Asheville Symphony Kicks Off Holiday Season with a Heartfelt Celebration

Asheville is buzzing with excitement as the Asheville Symphony prepares to launch its much-anticipated music season for 2024-2025. After facing challenges due to recent events, the symphony is back with a program that not only promises musical delight but also emphasizes community solidarity and generosity.

Join Us for “Masterworks 3: Messiah”

The Asheville Symphony invites everyone to come together for the spectacular performance of “Masterworks 3: Messiah,” happening on November 22 and 23, 2024, at the beautiful First Baptist Church of Asheville. This event is more than just a concert; it’s a vibrant celebration of our incredible community spirit, accompanied by a food drive aimed at ensuring a joyful Thanksgiving for families in need.

Pay What You Can Tickets

Understanding that times can be tough, especially for those impacted by recent storms, the symphony is making strides to be inclusive with their “Pay What You Can” initiative. They’re offering 200 tickets for the Friday evening performance at 8 p.m. that can be reserved at no cost or for any amount attendees can afford. These tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis, ensuring that everyone gets the chance to enjoy this special evening without the worry of financial pressure.

Daniel Crupi, the Executive Director of the Asheville Symphony, shared, “We are dedicated to the idea that music brings people together, especially during times of hardship. This concert is not only a celebration of the holiday season but also a reflection of our community’s resilience.” The aim is to bring the healing power of music to everyone, highlighting unity and compassion within the community.

Featuring Grammy-Winning Soloists

Under the masterful direction of Music Director Darko Butorac, the Asheville Symphony will perform Handel’s iconic Messiah, joined by the talented Asheville Symphony Chorus led by Kyle Ritter. Adding to the experience will be four distinguished soloists: GRAMMY-winner Jessica Beebe, soprano; GRAMMY-nominated Timothy Parsons, alto; Brian Giebler, tenor; and Jonathan Woody, bass. The performances are set for Friday, November 22 at 8 p.m., and Saturday, November 23 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

A Food Drive for Thanksgiving Dinner

In addition to an unforgettable musical experience, concertgoers are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to contribute to a Thanksgiving Food Drive in partnership with the First Baptist Church of Asheville. Items like canned ham, macaroni & cheese, instant potatoes, and various holiday staples are needed to help replenish the church’s pantry.

Emily Floyd, Pastor of Music and Worship at First Baptist Church, noted, “The food pantry at First Baptist Church has become a significant resource for the community, particularly as we continue to recover. Your donations will help so many of our neighbors celebrate the holidays.” This initiative underscores a collective effort to lend a helping hand during the festive season.

Complimentary Tickets for First Responders

As a heartfelt gesture for those who have selflessly assisted in recovery efforts, the Asheville Symphony will provide complimentary tickets for first responders for all performances. It’s a wonderful way to recognize and honor their dedication to the community.
