Fletcher, N.C.: Adolescent mental health treatment program closes citing staffing issues

FLETCHER, N.C. — Tapestry Fletcher Adolescent Treatment Center, located along Hendersonville Road in Fletcher, is closing its program for adolescents. Tapestry is a mental health treatment facility for adolescents ages 12-17 specializing in primary mental health disorders and primary eating disorders.

Concerns Over Lack of Programs

One viewer from McDowell County expressed concern about the closure, stating that there is a lack of mental health programs equipped to handle issues in adolescents such as depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. The viewer emphasized the importance of professionals in helping individuals deal with anxiety and expressed disappointment in the decision to close the program.

“One of the best things for folks dealing with anxiety is to have tools in their toolbox on how to deal with it,” said the viewer, who wished to remain anonymous. “The only way to get those tools is through a professional helping them. We’re getting rid of those professionals instead of adding to those professionals.”

The viewer mentioned that she and the teenager she cares for will now seek individualized and private counseling as an alternative.

Statement from Tapestry’s Parent Company

In a statement released on Friday, Jason Hendricks, the CEO of Tapestry’s parent company, Pyramid Health, acknowledged the difficult decision to close the adolescent treatment program in Fletcher due to staffing challenges. However, he reaffirmed the company’s commitment to being a trusted behavioral health treatment resource in the Asheville community and across North Carolina.

He also mentioned the company’s plans to expand the adult treatment program at the location, allowing them to serve a larger number of clients requiring treatment services.

Final Thoughts

The closure of the adolescent mental health treatment program at Tapestry Fletcher in Fletcher, N.C. has raised concerns about the availability of specialized programs for young individuals struggling with mental health issues. While the decision to repurpose the facility to focus on adult treatment has been made, it highlights the need for continued support and resources for adolescents in need of mental health services.
