Armed Robbery at West Asheville Convenience Store Shakes Local Community

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — In the early hours of December 7th, our peaceful neighborhood in Asheville experienced a shocking incident when a convenience store became the scene of an armed robbery. Just after midnight, police were called to the 600 block of Smokey Park Highway to gather details about this serious crime.

What Happened?

According to police reports, the robbery occurred at approximately 12:01 a.m. As officers rushed to the scene, they found that the suspect had already fled the area. This left many in the community anxious and eager for more information about the incident.

How Did It Unfold?

The suspect reportedly walked into the store, initially attempting to buy some ice. However, things took a serious turn when the individual pulled out a handgun and threatened an employee. As described in the police statement, the suspect ordered the employee to lock the front door of the store. Instead of complying, the quick-thinking employee dashed out into the parking lot, where they noticed other customers within their vehicles. This brave act apparently startled the robber, who then chose to flee the scene.

Details of the Suspect

Witnesses and police have provided a description of the suspect. The individual is described as a Black male, approximately 6 feet tall and has a medium build. As it turns out, when the robbery occurred, the suspect was dressed in a black jacket, black gloves, and wore a motorcycle helmet with a visor. After making a quick escape, the suspect was last seen heading westbound on Smokey Park Highway on a black motorcycle.

Ongoing Investigation

The Asheville Police Department has deemed the investigation ongoing. As community members, we naturally worry about safety, especially during incidents like this. Fortunately, police have indicated that there is currently no further threat reported connected to this armed robbery.
