A man is in custody, facing several charges which include breaking and entering, after heavy law enforcement presence was seen over the weekend at a hotel in Asheville. Few details are available at the moment, but a spokesperson for the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office confirms Joshua Daniel Reed, 33, was taken into custody by the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office says he was given a $44,000 bond and jail records show he is charged with breaking and entering, domestic violence protective order violations, larceny after break/enter, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 7, 2024. Multiple Asheville Police Department vehicles were seen at the Quality Inn on Tunnel Road, including patrol vehicles, an armored vehicle, along with a forensics vehicle. Asheville police said officers were executing a search warrant on a hotel room that turned out to be empty. They said the warrant was in connection to an investigation by the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.
In an email to a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said, “Crimes occurred in both jurisdictions and further charges are pending.” No other information was provided regarding the investigation or what led authorities to the Quality Inn on Sunday. The sheriff’s office said it was “thankful for APD’s assistance in attempting to locate the suspect.” This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
