Asheville Airport Enhances Services and Adds Outdoor Waiting Area for Busy Times

Asheville Airport Moves Rental Car Services, Adds Outdoor Lobby Waiting for Busy Times

As Asheville Regional Airport gears up for the busy summer travel season, changes are underway to accommodate the influx of travelers. Construction has led to adjustments with car rentals and customer service check-ins, including the addition of an outdoor lobby waiting area for busy times.

Temporary Roof Installed Outside Ticket Lobby

Travelers catching a flight out of AVL may find themselves waiting outside the airport’s ticket lobby due to ongoing construction. A temporary roof has been installed outside the lobby to provide shelter for passengers during peak travel times while construction is in progress.

Passengers who come during our busiest times will get in line outside, and then we will have staff members here who will let them know when it’s time to come in and get in line to go to the ticketing area.

Rental Car Check-In Counters Moved to Temporary Buildings

As part of the construction project to expand the airport’s facilities, rental car check-in counters have been relocated to temporary mobile buildings just outside the baggage claim area. Travelers needing to check in for a reserved rental car or rent a car should follow signs through a covered construction walkway to access the rental car counters.

The move was necessary to allow construction to proceed in the south area of the baggage claim section. Despite the ongoing construction, the operational area of baggage claim is not expected to be significantly impacted.

Expansion Plans for Asheville Regional Airport

The construction project at Asheville Regional Airport began in August 2023 and is anticipated to span four years. Upon completion, the airport is set to increase its number of gates from seven to at least 12, providing enhanced facilities for travelers.

Recent flight issues and long wait times have raised concerns among passengers. When asked about these challenges, airport officials mentioned that unless the issues are related to construction, they fall under the purview of the airlines. The airport is collaborating with its airline partners to address and resolve any problems affecting flight operations.

Looking Ahead to a Bright Future

Despite the current disruptions caused by construction, Asheville Regional Airport is optimistic about the future. With expansion plans underway and a commitment to enhancing the travel experience for passengers, the airport aims to better serve the growing number of travelers passing through its gates.

Asheville Regional Airport continues to prioritize passenger safety and convenience, implementing measures to ensure a smooth travel experience even during times of construction and renovation.
