ASHEVILLE, N.C. – An Asheville man has pleaded guilty to felony attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony possession of a stolen firearm. James Crownton Prescod, 33, was arrested in connection with the incident.
On November 19, 2023, Asheville Police Department officers responded to a call at the Bartlett Arms apartment complex regarding an attempted robbery. The victim reported that an unidentified male in a unit pointed a firearm at him, demanding his cell phone under the threat of death. The victim managed to escape and alert the authorities.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers located and apprehended Prescod, who was in possession of a stolen firearm. The police swiftly took him into custody for further questioning and investigation.
After pleading guilty to the charges of attempted armed robbery and possession of a stolen firearm, Prescod has been sentenced to an active prison term of 44-65 months under the North Carolina Department of Corrections. This decision was made in accordance with the seriousness of the offenses and the need to protect the community from such criminal activities.
