Organized brush piles on curbside for Asheville's brush collection

News Summary

Asheville’s regular brush collection services will resume on Monday, March 31, allowing residents to declutter their outdoor spaces. Guidelines will be in place to ensure the efficient collection of yard waste, including bagged leaves and contained brush trimmings. Residents are encouraged to place their waste curbside by 7 a.m. on the designated collection day and follow specific rules regarding item size and weight. The collection operates bi-weekly, and updates can be tracked through the AVL Collects app.

Asheville’s Brush Collection Services Are Back!

If you’re a resident of Asheville, get ready to get your yards tidy because the city is resuming its regular brush collection services starting on Monday, March 31. After a brief pause, it’s time to take charge of your garden debris! Whether you’ve been busy prepping your garden for summer or doing some spring cleaning, there’s some good news in store.

What’s In Store?

This upcoming brush collection is more than just a service; it’s your chance to declutter your outdoor space. The city will be collecting bagged leaves and properly contained brush trimmings. So, gather up that yard waste and get ready for a clean sweep!

Guidelines to Follow

vegetative brush that doesn’t meet city guidelines will not be picked up through the brush collection service. So, if you’ve got some leftover storm debris, don’t worry! The contractors will still be around to collect that until their final pass is complete.

Get Ready, Get Set, Go!

curbside by 7 a.m. on the Monday of your designated collection week. Remember, placement matters! You should avoid putting brush piles on storm drains or too close to utility structures like guy wires, meter boxes, or low-hanging utility lines. And please, keep those brush piles at least 5 feet away from mailboxes, fences, and utility poles to avoid potential problems.

Containers Matter!

50 pounds and should be free of any accumulated rainwater. If you’re opting for biodegradable paper yard waste bags, those should not weigh more than 25 pounds either.

Know Your Limits

six inches in diameter, longer than four feet, or weighing more than 50 pounds. And if you’re dealing with thorny vegetation, be sure to trim them down to lengths of two feet or less and place them in a separate pile.

What’s Not Collected?

Staying Updated

AVL Collects app is a smart way to receive notifications about collection days and service changes.

Storm Debris Assistance

Private Property Debris Removal (PPDR). But don’t delay! Make sure to apply before the deadline on April 15, 2025.
