Asheville City Schools had quite a surprise for one of its middle school teachers on Wednesday. Kelli Madkins, who teaches 8th grade English Language Arts at Asheville Middle School, was named the ACS Teacher of the Year.

A Well-Deserved Honor

Surrounded by administrators and students, Madkins expressed her gratitude for being recognized among her exceptional peers. “I was in the same category with some fabulous teachers,” Madkins said. “We have fantastic educators in this district, and I just feel really proud to be representing us.”

Principal Jo Landreth and Superintendent Dr. Maggie Fehrman were present to congratulate Madkins on her achievement. Dr. Fehrman spoke highly of Madkins, commending her dedication and high expectations for her students. “To see her work that magic in the classroom is like an artist painting a beautiful portrait,” Dr. Fehrman remarked.

A Testimony to Excellence

Madkins, visibly moved by the recognition, shared her sentiments about the award. “It means a lot,” she said. “I really try to give my best. My students push me to rise to the challenge, and I do the same. To be honored in this capacity is just fantastic.”

Dr. Fehrman also acknowledged Madkins’ potential as a contender for the prestigious title of North Carolina Teacher of the Year, highlighting her exceptional teaching abilities and commitment to her students.
