Asheville Launches Disaster Repairs Program to Assist Storm-Damaged Homeowners

Asheville Offers Support for Storm-Damaged Homes

Asheville, NC – If you’re a homeowner in Buncombe or Madison County and have been affected by recent storms, there’s good news on the horizon! The Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity has just expanded its outreach to help those in need of home repairs due to storm-related damage. This initiative comes after the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, which left many families in challenging situations.

Introducing the Disaster Repairs Program

Recognizing the significant increase in demand for home repair services, Habitat for Humanity has rolled out a new Disaster Repairs program. This program is specifically designed to assist low-income homeowners who may find themselves struggling to afford necessary repairs. The community’s needs have not gone unnoticed, and this initiative is a partnership effort through the Asheville Region Coalition for Home Repair, also known as ARCHR.

Many homeowners find themselves in precarious situations after storms, especially those who are uninsured or under-insured. The program aims to address issues that arise due to natural disasters, including problems with roofs, flooding, trees, and other access hazards, which can pose serious risks to safety and stability.

How to Get Help

Are you wondering if you qualify? The program is truly aimed at providing assistance to those who need it most. To apply for the Disaster Repairs program, homeowners must meet certain criteria:

  • Your household income must be less than 70% of the Area Median Income, depending on your household size.
  • The damage sustained must be storm-related.
  • You must reside in either Buncombe or Madison County.

Once applications are received, qualified candidates will undergo an assessment to identify storm damage. The repairs will be conducted by skilled professionals through the ARCHR organizations and qualified subcontractors, ensuring quality and safety.

Cost-Free Repairs for Qualified Homeowners

And here’s the best part – any repair work carried out for eligible families will be at no cost to the homeowner. This is a fantastic opportunity, especially for those who may feel overwhelmed by the financial implications of home repairs.

Joel Johnson, the Home Repair Director at Asheville Habitat, highlighted the spirit of collaboration in this program, stating, “We are working in partnership with various other repair-focused organizations to address Hurricane Helene related damage to homes in our community. We are focusing on low-income homeowners who do not have access to funds to handle their critical repairs.”

This collaborative effort not only represents hope for those affected by the storms but also embodies the community spirit that Asheville is known for.

Application Process

If you’re a homeowner in need of assistance, applying is easy! You can submit your application directly on the Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity’s website. If you have any questions about the program requirements, don’t hesitate to reach out at 828-251-5702 for more information.
