Asheville Celebrates Education Triumphs Amid Recovery Efforts
Asheville, NC – On November 14, 2024, Buncombe County Schools (BCS) held a Board Briefing reflecting a strong spirit of resilience and appreciation within the community. The atmosphere was both vibrant and uplifting as board members and the community came together to celebrate recent achievements while addressing the ongoing recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene, which had caused significant disruption in the area.

Also discussed were this year’s School Performance Data brought forth by Dr. Jennifer Reed, which showed that BCS students continue to perform above the state average, showcasing a trajectory of ongoing improvement.
Hurricane Response Update
During the briefing, BCS addressed the community’s concerns regarding the hurricane’s impact. Superintendent’s comments reflected immense appreciation for the first responders, volunteers, and community members who stepped up during these trying times. “I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible support,” the superintendent remarked. Notably, the district has implemented a resolution regarding tuition for students impacted by Hurricane Helene, showcasing the district’s commitment to providing support where it’s needed most.

The agenda included proposals for HVACR services across schools, alongside a request for capital outlay funds dedicated to athletics at Enka Middle School and TC Roberson High School.
