Asheville Fire Department Launches Community Risk Reduction Division

Introduction

The Asheville Fire Department (AFD) has announced the launch of a new division called Community Risk Reduction (CRR), aimed at enhancing emergency management capabilities and addressing community feedback for increased risk reduction efforts. Led by Division Chief Kelly Hinz, the CRR division represents a strategic advancement in AFD’s mission to expand emergency management services.

Key Developments

In January, Fire Chief Mike Cayse outlined the department’s focus on Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), Workforce Development, and Emergency Management. The creation of the CRR division signifies AFD’s commitment to meeting the community’s expectations and providing exceptional service.

Division Focus

The CRR division will serve as a centralized resource for special events, manage AFD’s Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP), and implement Fire and Life Safety Education initiatives. This strategic approach to risk reduction and emergency preparedness is aimed at safeguarding the well-being of Asheville’s residents and visitors.

Impact on the Community

AFD looks forward to the positive impact the CRR division will have on the community and is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of safety and service. The department aims to break out of traditional structures and embrace innovative approaches to public safety through the establishment of the new division.
