In the bustling culinary scene of Asheville, North Carolina, recent developments have brought both closures and charitable initiatives to the forefront. From a beloved cookie company bidding farewell to restaurants rallying for a cause, here’s the latest scoop on what’s happening in the WNC Food Scene.
Sad news for cookie enthusiasts in Asheville as Morsel Cookie Company, known for its oversized artisanal cookies, has announced its impending closure. The popular cookie purveyor will be shutting its doors for good on May 4. Until then, sweet-toothed customers can still indulge in Morsel’s delectable treats at their storefront in Woodfin on Thursdays through Saturdays. Stock up on favorites like the “Kitchen Sink” or “Chocolate Chip Sea Salt & Nutella” while you still can.
Meanwhile, 12 Bones Brewing is gearing up for a festive celebration of its fifth anniversary on Saturday, April 27. Located next to 12 Bones Smokehouse on Hendersonville Road in south Asheville, the brewery will be offering a special treat to patrons – all beers will be priced at $5 to mark the milestone occasion. In addition to the brews, guests can enjoy $5 food specials, live music, and games from 12-8 p.m. It’s a party you won’t want to miss!
Amidst the local fare frenzy, twelve Asheville restaurants have banded together to support a noble cause through Benevolent Spirits. This month-long initiative aims to raise funds for World Central Kitchen, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing meals in the wake of humanitarian crises. The recent tragedy in Gaza, where seven members of World Central Kitchen lost their lives in an airstrike by the Israeli Defense Force on April 1, has spurred the community into action.
From now until May 12, participating restaurants will donate one dollar from every featured cocktail or nonalcoholic beverage sold towards supporting World Central Kitchen’s efforts. It’s a small gesture that can make a big impact in aiding those in need. Join the cause by visiting any of the following Asheville eateries involved in the fundraiser:
By patronizing these establishments and raising a glass in support, you are contributing to a worthy cause. Through dining and drinking, the community can come together to make a difference.
