ASHEVILLE – Police are investigating a body that was found May 9 on a sidewalk near 285 McDowell St., close to Asheville High School’s campus. Asheville Police Department officers responded to reports of a possible dead body at 8 a.m. that morning, said spokesperson Rick Rice.
Asheville Fire Department, the responding emergency medical services agency, confirmed the individual was dead, he said. Rice said there was no initial indication of foul play. The cause of death appears to be “medical in nature,” he told the Citizen Times via email May 13. The deceased is a 41-year-old male, he said.
