Asheville’s July 4th Celebration Moves to South Slope, Anticipates 10,000 Attendees

Asheville, N.C. – Leaders and businesses are gearing up for Asheville’s Fourth of July celebration. Executive Director of Asheville’s Downtown Association, Hayden Plemmons, revealed that this year the celebration will be held in the South Slope, moving from its traditional location in Pack Square Park. The Ingles Independence Day Block Party is expected to draw in a crowd of around eight to 10,000 people.

Collaboration with the City

Plemmons highlighted that the Asheville Downtown Association is collaborating with the city of Asheville to host this Independence Day celebration. She emphasized that this event is one of the few Fourth of July celebrations taking place on the actual holiday, aiming to attract locals, tourists, and visitors from across the region.

Boost for Local Businesses

The move to the South Slope is anticipated to have a positive impact on local businesses. Rick Martin, regional manager of PIE.ZAA, expressed enthusiasm for the block party and hoped that it would become a permanent location for future celebrations. Martin revealed that they are preparing to serve 200-300 pizzas on the Fourth of July, a significant increase from their typical weekday sales.

Preparations by Local Establishments

Jeff Carter, a bartender at Green Man Brewery, acknowledged the increased activity and mentioned that all hands are on deck for the event. Extra staff will be on hand to accommodate the anticipated surge in customers. Plemmons confirmed that streets like Coxe Avenue and Buxton Avenue will be closed to facilitate pedestrian movement between breweries and restaurants.

Grand Finale with Fireworks

The block party is set to commence at noon on July 4th, with the grand finale fireworks show scheduled for 9:30 p.m. Attendees can enjoy the festivities while exploring the vibrant South Slope neighborhood. The celebration promises a lively atmosphere with food, drinks, and entertainment for all ages.

Conclusion

As Asheville gears up for its Fourth of July extravaganza, the move to the South Slope heralds a new era for this annual celebration. With expectations of a large turnout and enthusiastic participation from businesses and attendees alike, the Ingles Independence Day Block Party promises to be a memorable event for all.
