Details of the Assault

According to reports, Asheville Police Department received a call about a fight at the library on Haywood Road during a seminar titled “Strategic Lessons from the Palestinian Resistance,” part of the Another Carolina Anarchist Bookfair. Attendees estimated to be between 80 and 100 individuals were present at the event.

Context of the Altercation

The altercation reportedly began when an attendee decided to livestream the speech, leading to tensions within the crowd. The attendees were later subjected to an alleged assault by other attendees.

Video Footage

A video circulating on social media captured moments of the altercation, where attendees expressed displeasure with the livestreaming. As the situation escalated, physical confrontations ensued, resulting in injuries to individuals who sustained bruises and abrasions.

Police Investigation

The Asheville Police Department is utilizing surveillance footage from the library to identify persons of interest related to the incident. One individual was charged with obstructing police investigations after the altercation. The police are committed to reducing violence in the community and are working with the District Attorney’s office on the case.
