Ashville resident Tyrell Warren, 32, has been found guilty and sentenced over a year after a shooting incident in a local parking area underneath Jeff Bowen Bridge. The event, which occurred on June 13, 2021, led to the death of one individual and left another severely injured.
Warren was apprehended for his illegal actions which included Second Degree Murder and Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, among related accusations. After a two-week jury trial, the court returned a final verdict on the man’s case, following thorough discussions.
Ashevile law enforcement began probing into the crime after they received information about gunfire around the location on that fateful day. When officers arrived at the alleged crime scene, they found Brian Wilson, along with another victim, both in grave conditions with chest wounds from gunshots. Tragically, Wilson could not withstand his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second person was rushed to a nearby hospital, from where they were able to recover over time.
According to investigative reports, the shooting incident can be traced back to an altercation earlier that night around N. Ann Street. As it appears, the conflict had fueled Warren to take up arms against the victims. In the controlled chaos following the shooting, Warren illicitly engaged in a series of car thefts and armed robberies around Asheville, instigating a wave of panic among local residents.
About a week after the incident, law enforcement officials successfully nabbed Warren in Monroe, NC, on June 20, thus putting an end to his criminal spree. Warren, following his conviction, was dealt a severe sentence of 336 to 416 months’ imprisonment for the Second Degree Murder charge, on top of an 89 to 119 month period for the charges related to armed robbery.
With the conviction and sentencing of Warren, the victims’ family and friends hope to find some sense of justice and closure, even as they navigate the heart-wrenching grief from their loss. The local community also expresses relief as Warren’s conviction represents an essential step towards safeguarding their security and enforcing the law. As Asheville continues healing from the shockwaves of the deadly incident, this case serves as a stark reminder of the persistent fight against crime, paving the path for a safer and more secure city.
