Asheville’s Quirky Annual Pickle Festival

Asheville’s Quirky Annual Pickle Festival

A Bite into Asheville’s Pickle Fever

Yearning for an eclectic, fun-filled day of pickles, games, and local crafts? Look no further! Asheville, North Carolina has just wrapped up its second, sensational annual Pickle Festival. The event was hosted by the innovative craft-beer collective, The Whale. Notably, this year’s pickle lover turn-out was defined as “kind of a big dill” by the organizers.

The Whale initiated this vibrant festival last year as a celebration of all things fermented. When asked about the inspiration behind the celebration, Andrew Ross, the owner of The Whale, stated, “Pickles are fermented – everything we do involving beer, wine, and the like employs fermentation. Therefore, it feels right to gather and honor our favorite fermented item – the pickle”.

A Pickle-full Line-Up

This year’s event not only allowed the attendees to savor pickles from various local vendors, but it also saw a fantastic range of pickle-influenced products. These local delights included prominent names such as DJs Pickles and Silas Sauce, and more. Equal buzz was generated by the stall from Creationivity, who showcased an impressive line of pickle-themed jewelry. Thus, the festival became a brewing pot of Asheville’s food and craft culture.

The Delight of Pickle Bobbing

No festival is complete without some quintessential games and activities, and the Asheville Pickle Festival was no different. Quirky games like pickle bobbing, pickle on a rope, and a pickle eating contest added splendid joy and flavor to the festivity. These activities amplified attendees’ spirit, serving as a testament to Asheville’s vibrant community.

Pickling Ahead!

Such was the charm and success of the annual pickle festival that the organizers are already buzzing with excitement for continuing the tradition next year. No doubt, the Asheville Pickle Festival has succeeded in marking itself as a hub to engage with the local community, food, and craft culture – all while celebrating the humble pickle! So, for those who missed it this time, keep an eye out for next year’s festivities. One thing’s for sure: Asheville and its Pickle Festival certainly know how to make a ‘dill-icious’ statement!
