Asheville Police Arrest Two Juveniles on Gun and Drug Charges

Asheville Youths Apprehended

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — On Thursday, Aug. 22, two juveniles were arrested by the Asheville Police Department (APD) at an Asheville apartment complex on serious gun and drug charges. These youngsters initially attempted to escape on foot from Hillcrest Apartments when the officers approached at 6:14 p.m. Nevertheless, their efforts were futile as the detectives swiftly arrested them without any physical confrontation.

Dangerous Weapons and Drugs Found in Their Possession

During the arrest, it was discovered that the individuals were in possession of three firearms, a lethal amount of the powerful opioid fentanyl, and a significant amount of cash. The Asheville Police Department seized the following items from the juveniles:

  • Watchdog Tactical WD-15 AR pistol
  • Glock 19 pistol with a full-auto switch kit
  • S&W SD40VE pistol
  • 12 grams of fentanyl
  • $7,123 in cash

Charges Leveled Against the Juveniles

Following their arrest, the two minors were charged with several severe felony offenses:

  • Trafficking in opium or heroin by possession
  • Possession with intent to sell or deliver schedule ii narcotics
  • Illegal possession of a handgun by a minor
  • Possession of a weapon of mass destruction
  • Resisting, delaying or obstructing law enforcement officers

Implications for Community Safety

This arrest and seizure of potentially lethal weapons and drugs underscore the safety challenges many Asheville neighborhoods are currently experiencing. The discovery of large quantities of fentanyl, a substance known to be up to 50 times more potent than heroin, highlights the seriousness of the narcotics issue in the area. Furthermore, the possession of lethal weapons by minors is troubling to community leaders and residents.

Next Steps for the Juveniles

As the arrested individuals are minors, specific details about their identities and data are protected under juvenile laws. Nonetheless, they will face the justice system’s full force due to the severe charges brought against them.

Increased Vigilance Required

This case serves as a notable reminder for community residents about the importance of reporting suspicious activity to the authorities. Asheville Police Department’s speedy actions that led to these arrests show the critical role active community vigilance plays in public safety.

Stay Informed, Stay Safe

The Asheville Police Department continues to work diligently to address such issues and ensures local citizens’ safety. The community is urged to remain vigilant, stay informed, and report any suspicious activities to the police department.
