ASHEVILLE – The Asheville Police Department and Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office have announced a new joint patrol initiative in downtown Asheville to enhance safety and security for residents, visitors, and businesses. The joint patrols will take place from 7 pm to 3 am on Fridays and Saturdays as part of the BCSO Downtown Initiative.
The collaborative effort between the Asheville Police Department and Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office marks a significant step towards creating a safe and vibrant atmosphere in downtown Asheville. By working together, both law enforcement agencies aim to address public safety concerns effectively and maintain a secure environment for all individuals in the area.
Mike Lamb, Interim Chief of the Asheville Police Department, emphasized the importance of the joint patrol efforts, stating, “The launch of joint patrol efforts between the Asheville Police Department and Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office represents a significant step forward in our collective mission to bolster downtown safety. By working together, we can more effectively address public safety concerns and maintain a secure environment for all.”
Buncombe County Sheriff Quentin Miller highlighted the impact of the joint patrols on community members, stating, “These joint patrols with APD will serve to reassure our community members that they can feel safe when getting off work at late hours from bars or restaurants or when visiting our downtown area.” The joint efforts aim to provide a visible law enforcement presence to deter crime and ensure the well-being of everyone in downtown Asheville.
