Asheville is buzzing with excitement as we prepare for the 40th annual Asheville Ruby Jubilee Quilt Show happening this weekend! From September 26th to 28th, quilt lovers and craft enthusiasts alike are invited to experience what promises to be a memorable showcase of creativity, all set against a rather rainy backdrop.
Taking place at the WNC Ag Center’s Davis Event Center, over 350 stunning quilts will be on display for attendees to admire. With festival-goers eagerly anticipating this celebration, everyone is reminded to embrace a little rain, as weather forecasts predict periods of heavy rainfall with a high of 68°F on the opening day. It looks like we might see two to three inches of rain, but don’t let that discourage you; after all, quilts and creativity can brighten even the stormiest of days!
The rain might be relentless, with winds picking up to around 25 to 35 mph, and a 100% chance of precipitation, leading to potential flooding concerns. But if you love quilts and community, coming out to support this event will definitely be worth the trip! Just grab your umbrellas and waterproof gear, and you’ll be ready to dive into the colorful world of quilting.
This year, the quilt show boasts a prize fund of over $12,000, attracting a wide variety of styles and designs that showcase the incredible skill and artistry of local quilters. Whether you’re a seasoned quilter or simply appreciate the craft, you’ll find something that captures your eye. Excitingly, quilts on display will also be available for purchase, so if you see something you love, it could easily become part of your home décor!
The show isn’t just about admiring quilts. There will be live demonstrations throughout the event, allowing visitors to learn more about quilting techniques and the stories behind each piece. Plus, with a series of engaging workshops scheduled each day, participants can enhance their skills while enjoying the company of other quilting enthusiasts.
For families attending the quilt show, there’s plenty of fun in store! Kids can indulge in the kids sewing station, where young ones can learn the basics of sewing in a friendly and supportive environment. And let’s not forget about the vendors—over 20 local businesses will be participating, offering everything from quilting supplies to handmade gifts, so you can take a piece of the quilt show home with you.
Organized by the Asheville Quilt Guild, a dedicated group of around 300 members, this event truly embodies the spirit of community. The guild works tirelessly to not only promote the art of quilting but also to preserve the rich mountain heritage that quilting represents. Their mission extends beyond competition; they seek to provide a welcoming space for quilters of all levels, connecting individuals with a common passion.
So how can you join in on the fun? The quilt show will be open for all three days, with tickets priced at $10 for general admission and $5 for students, while kids aged 12 and under can enjoy it for free! The event kicks off at the Davis Event Center, located at 765 Boylston Hwy, Fletcher, where vibrant fabrics and creative designs await your eager eyes.
Before heading out, just remember to check the weather and maybe even bring some rain boots—the quilts will be dazzling, rain or shine! For more information, you can visit the Asheville Quilt Guild’s website to plan your visit.
Don’t miss out on the chance to celebrate the art of quilting and enjoy what our amazing community has to offer, even amidst this stormy weather. See you at the quilt show!
