Asheville’s Story Medicine Focuses on Racial Healing
In a significant shift, Meta Commerse, the founder and CEO of Story Medicine Worldwide, is transitioning to a new phase and passing some leadership roles onto the next generation of healers. Established in 2011 in Asheville, Story Medicine Worldwide has been using the power of storytelling for racial healing and cultivating individual authenticity. The online platform integrates healing rituals with writing techniques to encourage participants to voice out their personal and ancestral stories.
Heidi Wood Takes on Teaching Role
Atlanta-based online teacher, Heidi Wood, will assume teaching responsibilities in the coming year. Wood, who joined Story Medicine in 2019, commends the platform’s approach for its extraordinary exploration of deep issues rooted in spirituality. She will be conducting workshops and classes on racial healing, a focus that Story Medicine has maintained since 2016.
Her workshops, including Racial Healing Introductory Workshop, Staying Safe in America Workshop, and another racial healing workshop solely for parents, are designed to guide people particularly white individuals in fostering healthier relationships and navigating discussions on racial issues.
Message of Healing
Meta Commerse, the founder, reveals that the message behind Story Medicine is inspired by the teachings of one of her past instructors who imparted knowledge from an Ayurvedic perspective. According to him, we all live our lives from the inside out – a principle that Story Medicine aims to put into action by aiding individuals in harnessing their internal resources based on their life experiences and innate gifts.
Asheville’s Vibrant Theatre Scene

The Asheville Musical Theatre, after a successful maiden season, is inviting video audition submissions for its 2024 season until early March. The upcoming season highlights three notable musicals – Songs for a New World from Tony Award winner, Jason Robert Brown and Daddy Long Legs, inspired by a classic novel about an orphan with a cryptic benefactor. In another exciting event, Vinny Vignette, a local Yoga teacher, and life coach will conduct a session on Passion Roadmapping. Reggae Tribute at Salvage Station
To wrap up an eventful week ahead, Salvage Station has scheduled two concerts – a reggae Grateful Dead tribute and a performance by Thurston Howell. Enjoy the fusion performance of yesteryears’ soft rock melodies with a modern twist. Both concerts are restricted to those aged 18 and over.
