Asheville Residents Prepare for Possible Rainy Week Ahead

Asheville, your friendly neighborhood weather update is in! For today, we’re looking at a day that could be described as partly cloudy, with a slight chance of a rain shower peeking through the clouds. The temperature is expected to reach a cozy 76°F, perfect for enjoying the beautiful fall colors in our region. Winds will be gentle, coming from the north-northwest at about 5 to 10 mph. However, as we go into the evening, the skies are expected to become more overcast.

What’s on the Horizon?

Tonight, temperatures are set to dip down to about 51°F. There’s a moderate chance—around 50%—that we could see some rain showers overnight. So, if you’re planning on being out and about, you might want to grab an umbrella or a raincoat just in case! Wind speeds will remain light and variable, making for a mellow atmosphere.

Community Resources & Support

In other news, the Asheville community continues to show its resilience. Following recent events, the Asheville Police Department has ramped up its patrol efforts, with full staffing and additional support from outside law enforcement agencies to ensure everyone’s safety. For those in need of assistance or welfare checks, be sure to reach out to the non-emergency line at 828-252-1110. If you experience any urgent situations, dial 911.

As part of the city’s response measures, food distributions are ongoing, serving meals ready to eat (MREs) and bottled drinking water to the community. If you need access to water or food supplies, you can visit distribution sites, where areas are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., or until supplies last. Here’s a quick rundown:

  • Pack Square Park – 70 Court Plaza (Walk-up only)
  • Asheville Middle School – 211 S. French Broad Ave.
  • Shiloh Community Center – 121 Shiloh Road
  • North Windy Ridge Intermediate School – 20 Doan Road, Weaverville
  • Leicester Elementary School – 31 Gilbert Road, Leicester
  • …and many more across the city!

Please remember to bring your own containers for non-potable water if needed, and let’s show our support by volunteering at these distribution sites! You can get in touch via email at smenaya-merritt@ashevillenc.gov or rwood@ashevillenc.gov.

Planning Ahead

As we approach the weekend, it’s always a good idea to stay in tune with local resources. The Biltmore Beacon will be publishing a Resources Guide every week, aiming to help you locate distribution addresses and operating hours for vital services in our community. Expect updates every Friday by 5 p.m.! Any organization wishing to be added to the resource list can contact Biltmorebeacon@gmail.com.

In light of some recent changes, remember that the curfew in Asheville is still in effect, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Please be mindful of the hours as we work together to ensure the safety of everyone in our community!

Stay Connected!

Lastly, during this time of adjustment and with the possibility of rain in our forecast, let’s keep the lines of communication open. If you see something or have concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out. We all have a role to play in supporting one another to bounce back from any challenges ahead!

Stay cozy, Asheville, and let’s hope the sun peeks out a bit more as we inch into the weekend!
