Olfenbuttel advises residents to follow the BearWise Basics, which include removing food attractants, properly securing trash cans, and ensuring a clean outdoor environment to discourage bears from venturing too close to human habitats.
Encountering Bear Cubs
During this time of year, it is not uncommon to come across bear cubs that appear to be alone. In most cases, these cubs are simply waiting for their mothers to return from foraging. However, if you suspect a cub has been orphaned, it is important not to handle, feed, or disturb the cub. Instead, report the sighting to the N.C. Wildlife Helpline for further assistance.
