Asheville VA Health Care System Reopens Fully to Support Local Veterans

Asheville Welcomes Veterans Back to Full Service!

Asheville, NC – Veterans in the region have some wonderful news! The Western North Carolina VA Health Care System is back to full operations, which means that all facilities, including the Charles George VA Medical Center and its Community-Based Outpatient Clinics in Hickory, Franklin, and Forest City, are ready to serve our veterans once again. Stephanie Young, the executive director, expressed excitement about this development, stating, “We look forward to welcoming our veterans and continuing to provide the care they have rightfully earned and deserve.”

Important Accessibility Update

If you plan to visit the main facility, keep in mind there’s a small change in how to get there. Currently, there is no access from exit 55 on your route. Instead, you’ll need to stay on I-240 and take exit 7. Easy enough, but worth noting!

Honoring Our Heroes This Veterans Day

With Veterans Day just around the corner, there’s a special ceremony happening in collaboration with the City of Asheville and the Veterans Council. The ceremony is set to take place on Monday, November 11, at 11 a.m. at the Charles George VA Medical Center. It’s an opportunity for the community to come together and honor the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. We can’t wait to see our community showing appreciation!

Upcoming Events for the Veterans Community

The support doesn’t stop at the Veterans Day Ceremony! There are several upcoming events aimed at assisting veterans:

  • November 13: A Be Tobacco Free Resource Fair, hosted by the Western North Carolina VA Health Care System, will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Charles George VA Medical Center. This fair is designed to provide veterans with essential tools for health and well-being.
  • November 13: Don’t miss the Veteran Stand Down Burnsville event, hosted by the North Carolina Division of Veterans Services. This will take place at the Burnsville Town Center, 6 S. Main St., from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., offering assistance with shelter, medical services, and benefits.
  • November 14: Join the Veteran Stand Down Macon at the Robert C. Carpenter Community Building, 1288 Georgia Road, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m..
  • November 15: Lastly, be sure to check out the Western North Carolina Veterans Benefits Fair. Hosted by the Winston-Salem VA Regional Office, this fair will take place at the Renaissance Asheville Downtown Hotel, 31 Woodfin Street, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Here, veterans can get help filing for claims and learn more about pending benefits.

A Community Conversation

As we all know, discussions around veterans’ services and support are vital for creating a stronger community. The comments section of community updates serves as a forum for open and respectful dialogue. It’s important to engage in discussions that help us understand the needs of our veterans and how we can best support them. However, please remember to keep the conversation civil and constructive; that way, we can encourage everyone in our community to participate!

So, mark your calendars and get involved! Whether it’s attending the Veterans Day Ceremony or participating in the various events lined up in November, it’s a great chance to show our appreciation for all those who have served. Together, let’s honor our veterans and ensure they receive the support they’ve earned.
