Asheville Hosts Free Women’s Health Awareness and Wellness Conference on April 13

Asheville, North Carolina and surrounding counties — Join us on April 13 from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the western North Carolina (WNC) satellite site for the Annual Women’s Health Awareness Conference. The WNC Health Policy Initiative (HPI) will host the event at the Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC), 121 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC 28803, in partnership with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) /National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), Asheville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Asheville Buncombe Institute of Parity Achievement (ABIPA), Buncombe County Communications and Public Engagement, and the Buncombe County Department of Health. This free and popular wellness conference is celebrating 10 years and has already helped more than 6,000 women and their families in North Carolina and across the United States.

The conference will offer health and environmental health education, health services, health resources and health advocacy skills to attending participants. The conference also provides free health screenings for participants including mammograms for qualifying women. Note: To determine if you are eligible for a free 3D mammogram, you must register for the event, click here, and complete the mammogram eligibility questionnaire by March 25. Eligible women will be contacted to schedule an appointment. Appointment slots are limited. There will be no on-site registration for mammograms day of event.

Focusing on Important Women’s Issues

This event welcomes all individuals of WNC. Recognizing April as minority health and health disparities awareness month, we are placing special emphasis on minority, underserved, and underrepresented women. This year’s event features health experts presenting the most up-to-date information on topics of interest to women from various racial and ethnic backgrounds. Sessions will include presentations on chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, dementia and more. Additionally, there will be a session on the North Carolina Medicaid program including experienced counselors who will provide one-on-one assistance.

All participants can preregister for the conference at no cost at click here by March 15. Onsite registration will be available the day of the event.
