Join us on April 13 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) for the Annual Women’s Health Awareness Conference. The event, hosted by the WNC Health Policy Initiative, in partnership with the National Institutes of Health (NIH)/National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), will offer a day of health and environmental education, resources, and advocacy skills for women in Western North Carolina.
The free conference, celebrating its 10-year milestone, has supported over 6,000 women and families across North Carolina and beyond. Participants can expect sessions on a range of women’s health issues including chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, and dementia. Special emphasis will be placed on addressing the needs of minority, underserved, and underrepresented women.
One of the key offerings of the conference is free health screenings, including mammograms for qualifying women. To ensure eligibility for a free 3D mammogram, interested individuals must register for the event and complete the mammogram eligibility questionnaire by March 15. Appointment slots are limited, and there will be no on-site registrations for mammograms on the event day.
All individuals in Western North Carolina are invited to attend this informative and empowering event. Pre-registration by March 15 is required to reserve a space for the conference and lunch. Onsite registration will be available on the day of the event. For more information and to register, visit www.niehs.nih.gov/womenshealthawareness.
For individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations to participate, please contact the Office of Human Research and Community Engagement at 919-541-3852 or email wha@niehs.nih.gov. TTY users can reach the Federal Relay Service at 800-877-8339. Requests for accommodations should be made by March 15.
The event is sponsored by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Co-sponsors include the Durham Alumnae Chapter and Delta House, Inc., along with partners in Western North Carolina such as the WNC Health Policy Initiative and Buncombe County Department of Health.
