The colorful cityscape of Asheville was further decked up this past week, playing host to the much-anticipated second edition of the annual AVLFest from August 1 through August 4. With stellar performances gracing multiple venues across town, the music festival attracted fans from both right at home and distant cities.
The main stage at Salvage Station gleamed into the night as Asheville-based headliner, Papadosio, painted the evening skies with their unique blend of progressive rock, live electronica, jazz, and jam. Psychedelic lights poured over a sea of attendees, each swaying and lost in the artistic cacophony that Papadosio unravelled through the night.
Bringing a different flavor to the main stage, was the Atlanta-based Trap Jazz, fusing the energy of hip-hop and the soulful rhythm of jazz, captivating attendees into a hypnotic trance of melodies.
Simultaneously, The Orange Peel transformed into a chillwave soundscape, where Washed Out, renowned for their chill vibes, mesmerized the crowd with soothing tracks set against an attractive backdrop. Their performance drew a massive crowd, adding another feather to the multi-genre hat that AVLFest boasts.
Meanwhile, at the Asheville Music Hall, LazrLuvr stepped back in time to recreate the feel of 80s pop music, with attendees grooving to the rhythm of nostalgia. The venue also hosted Boat Command, a local band known for their post-lo-fi yacht hop, keeping the audience engaged.
The Silver Doors, a local psych-rock group, left the crowd in a daze at Eulogy with their stellar performance. West Asheville saw Yesterday’s Clothes strumming their music at Fleetwood’s Rock-N-Roll Wedding Chapel, adding diversity to the lineup of performances at the fest.
A notable performance was by Beachwood Sparks. Perched in The Outpost, the Los Angeles-based country band performed their country tunes to an excited crowd, elevating the eclectic mix of genres at the festival.
With hundreds of local and touring acts across genres, AVLFest 2024 proved to be a celebration of music that brought together an array of attendees. From the chill waves of Washed Out at The Orange Peel to the rhythmic wonders of Trap Jazz at Salvage Station, there was something for every music lover. An amazing weekend of music, companionship, and celebration, the event was a testament to the inclusive and diverse spirit of Asheville.
