President Biden will address the nation this coming Wednesday from the Oval Office. These are set to be his first public remarks since he announced his unexpected decision to drop out of the race for President. The President shared on his social media, “on what lies ahead, and how I will finish the job for the American people,” hinting at the topics for his upcoming speech.
Since his decision to step out of the Presidential Race, the Democratic party has rallied behind Vice President Kamala Harris. Post Mr. Biden’s endorsement, she has managed to secure the support of a majority of Democratic delegates. Mr. Biden might not have the power to appoint a successor for the Democratic nomination, but his endorsement has highlighted Harris as the next potential candidate.
The President has been on a brief pause from public appearances mainly due to COVID-19. However, on Tuesday he reassured everyone of his well being after testing negative for the virus.
In the anticipated Oval Office address, the President is expected to highlight his objectives for the remainder six months term. Oval Office addresses are quite rare and before his withdrawal from the race, Mr. Biden had only given two such addresses in his Presidential tenure. With his departure from the Democratic ticket, Mr. Biden aims to concentrate on the presidential duties over the strenuous campaign trail.
Without a doubt, this Oval Office address and any subsequent speeches the president gives at the Democratic National Convention will be crucial not only for his presidency, but also for his legacy in public service that spans over five decades.

The address will be live-streamed online and will also be televised.
In her first remarks post-Biden’s withdrawal, Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her deep gratitude towards Biden. “I am deeply grateful for his [President Biden’s] confidence. Now more than ever, we must continue to push for our Democratic values…” as shared on her social media.
In her first rally as the leading candidate, Harris has begun her campaign in Wisconsin already. With her leading the Democratic ticket, a good percentage of Democrats believe the election chances have turned favorable after Biden’s exit.
