Asheville, N.C. – It was just another routine day at the beautiful Biltmore Estate when an unexpected incident shook the grounds. On the morning of November 4, at approximately 11:16 a.m., a contract worker was injured when a tree fell during a removal operation. Thankfully, quick response from emergency services ensured that the situation was addressed promptly.
According to Kelley Klope, a spokesperson for the Asheville Fire Department, the worker was involved in a project where a tree company contractor was hired to take down a tree on the estate’s sprawling property. During the process, this took an unfortunate turn when the target tree fell onto another tree. This knock-on effect led to the second tree crashing down onto the contract worker.
Despite the alarming situation, the worker displayed remarkable resilience. Klope noted that when emergency medical services (EMS) arrived at the scene, the individual had managed to extricate himself from under the tree. He was reportedly alert and even walking around, which is certainly a relief given the circumstances.
The fast actions of the emergency responders were commendable. Klope shared, “EMS arrived on the scene first. When the fire department arrived, the individual who was trapped under the tree had been able to get out and was alert, up and walking around.” This highlights the worker’s incredible spirit as well as the importance of having swift emergency protocols in place.
After evaluating the situation, the injured worker was transported to a hospital for further examination and treatment. While details regarding the extent of his injuries remain unclear, the fact that he was able to walk away from such a harrowing situation is a positive sign.
A representative from Biltmore Estate released a statement regarding the incident, expressing their concern for the worker’s well-being. They emphasized their commitment to maintaining a safe environment, and stated that the safety of all workers and visitors is their top priority. Such incidents remind everyone of the inherent risks associated with tree work, especially on a property as expansive as Biltmore.
This incident comes as Biltmore prepares for its festive season. As the estate gears up for its glorious Christmas festivities, which includes the much-anticipated annual tree-raising event for the iconic holiday display, the management clearly aims to keep both their workers and guests safe and secure.
As the community reflects on this incident, it’s a reminder of how quickly situations can change. It also brings attention to the need for safety measures and proper precautions, especially when working in natural settings surrounded by heavy tree canopies.
For now, Asheville residents and those who cherish the charm of Biltmore Estate can take comfort in knowing that the injured worker is receiving care and that safety remains a focus for the estate’s operations. We all hope for a swift recovery and look forward to seeing the estate continue to flourish as the holiday season approaches.
As we keep our fingers crossed for a positive outcome, let’s all stay aware of safety practices and support our local workers, who make our cherished experiences possible.
