Residents of the historically Black community in Asheville are relieved that the Project Aspire development proposal, including a 20-story hotel, has been paused. The downtown YMCA of Western North Carolina and First Baptist Church, the property owners involved in the project, have decided to re-evaluate their options due to challenges with funding parking. The community organizations have emphasized their commitment to the community’s benefit and economic development, and they will continue to engage with neighbors and community members to shape their future plans. In the meantime, both organizations are dedicated to upholding their current facilities and serving the community in other capacities.
