Buncombe County Celebrates New Government Services Center Opening!

The shiny new Government Services Center is set to open its doors at 35 Woodfin Street this coming Tuesday, April 8. This welcoming change means added convenience for residents who need services from various county departments.

Moving Day for Important Departments

As part of this efficient move, several essential departments are relocating from their current home at 30 Valley Street. Expect to find the Permits & Inspections, Asheville-Buncombe Air Quality, and Environmental Health departments all under one roof in the new center. The moving trucks will be buzzing around on Monday, April 7, but don’t worry! These departments will continue to operate through the day, ready to assist residents until they close for the move.

On April 8, at 8 a.m., the doors to the new Government Services Center will swing wide open. Residents can easily hop into the surface parking lot right in front of the building. What a fantastic way to streamline services for everyone!

Revamping the Resident Experience

So why is this move such a big deal? Well, Buncombe County officials are keen on maximizing existing space and enhancing the overall experience for residents. It’s all about cutting out some unnecessary properties that the county uses and ultimately saving taxpayer dollars. This innovative approach doesn’t just address administrative needs; it’s a step towards finding more efficient housing solutions for everyone.

The Importance of Compliance

Having the right provisions in place is crucial, especially when on-site dining is permitted. Facilities must ensure an adequate water supply for hand washing, restroom access for staff and patrons, and compliance with state regulations during any outages or emergencies.

Waste Management Transition: A Learning Curve

With FCC Environmental Services employing 28 drivers and 38 trucks to service the county, residents may notice a shift compared to the previous provider, Waste Pro, which used 20 trucks daily. The new schedules and routes are certainly an adjustment for many.

To ensure quality service continues during this transitional phase, Buncombe County officials are actively monitoring complaints and addressing issues as they arise. If you’re keen to stay in the loop, the new pickup schedules are available online, so check them out!
