News Summary

The Buncombe County Government Services Center officially opens on April 8 at 35 Woodfin St, offering essential services under one roof. The new facility will house Permits & Inspections, Asheville-Buncombe Air Quality, and Environmental Health departments, streamlining services for residents. This move enhances accessibility and aims to save taxpayer dollars while providing improved public services.

Buncombe County Welcomes New Government Services Center

Exciting news for residents of Buncombe County! On Tuesday, April 8, the brand-new Buncombe County Government Services Center will officially open its doors to the public at 35 Woodfin St. This opening marks an important milestone in the county’s comprehensive facilities plan that has been in the works for several years.

A Smart Move for Essential Services

The new center will be home to three crucial departments: Permits & Inspections, Asheville-Buncombe Air Quality, and Environmental Health. Currently, these departments are located at 30 Valley St., but don’t worry; they’re not disappearing for long! The moving process begins on April 7, and remarkably, these departments will still be available to assist customers during the transition. So, if you have business with them, you’ll be in good hands even as they pack up and move out.

What’s New and Improved?

When the doors swing open at 8 a.m. on April 8, residents can expect a streamlined experience at the new services center. Upon arrival, visitors will be pleased to find ample parking in the surface parking lot right in front of the building. Gone are the days of scrambling for a parking spot—now you can stroll in with ease!

If you need to reach out beforehand, don’t hesitate to contact the Permits & Inspections department at (828) 250-5360. They’ve also made it super convenient to access permitting services online through the Development & Permits portal. Got questions about air quality? The Asheville-Buncombe Air Quality department is just a call away at (828) 250-6777. They also offer a handy portal for those dealing with asbestos removal and demolition renovation.

Don’t forget about Environmental Health; you can reach them via their main line at (828) 250-5016 or by sending an email to ehrequest@buncombecounty.org. As with the other departments, they also provide online services for your convenience.

What’s Next?

Mark your calendars! Additional departments will be making their way to the new center soon. The Planning & Development department is set to open on April 22, followed by Election Services, which will start serving residents on May 1. This strategic relocation aims not only to enhance the workspace for staff but also to create a more efficient and effective experience for residents needing services.

Why This Matters to You

This move isn’t just about a new building; it’s about making things easier for you, the taxpayer. By maximizing existing space and co-locating departments that deal with public services, Buncombe County aims to offer a better experience. The county is dedicated to improving how public-facing departments respond to community needs, ultimately striving to save taxpayer dollars and repurpose properties to help with housing needs.

In summary, the opening of the Buncombe County Government Services Center is a positive step into the future for local residents. With newly combined departments under one roof, improved accessibility, and enhanced services, the county is ensuring that your experience will be smooth and supportive. Be sure to visit the new location starting April 8 and take advantage of all the resources they will have at your fingertips!
