ASHEVILLE, N.C. — In the early hours of November 1, an unsettling event unfolded in a cozy neighborhood in north Asheville. Residents were jolted awake as police responded to reports of a break-in at a home on Glen Falls Road around 1:47 a.m. Thankfully, Asheville Police Department (APD) acted swiftly, apprehending a man who allegedly attempted to steal items from the residence.
The alert was raised when homeowners noticed someone forcing their way into their home, and they immediately dialed 911. It’s always nerve-wracking to think that someone might be violating your personal space and property, especially in the quiet hours of the night. But thanks to their quick thinking, APD officers were dispatched without delay.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Ryan Douglas Ross, age 49. He was caught in the act as he attempted to leave the residence, likely with items that didn’t belong to him. The police seized the moment and quickly placed him in custody.
Fortunately, the residents of the home were unharmed during the incident, which is certainly a relief for a community that values safety and peace.
During their investigation, APD discovered that Ross was not only attempting theft but was also in possession of drugs and items that belonged to the homeowners. This discovery just added another layer to an already alarming situation. It’s always surprising to know how quickly things can escalate during a break-in, and it raises concerns about the safety of our neighborhoods.
Following his arrest, Ross was taken to the Buncombe County Detention Facility, where he was booked under no bond. This means he is not eligible for release by a magistrate, a decision rooted in the Pretrial Integrity Act. The act aims to keep potentially dangerous individuals in custody while their cases are processed, thus ensuring the continued safety of the community.
The police are encouraging anyone who has information regarding the incident or any other illegal activities in the area to come forward. The APD can be reached at (828) 252-1110. Anonymity is respected for those who prefer to report tips without revealing their identity. If you’re tech-savvy, there’s also a smartphone application called TIP2APD available for download, allowing residents to easily send tips directly to Asheville’s finest.
This incident serves as a notable reminder for everyone to stay vigilant and look out for one another. Even in our beautiful Asheville, a city often associated with art and nature, it is essential to be aware of your surroundings. It’s always a good idea to keep doors and windows secured, especially at night and remind neighbors to do the same.
As we move forward, let’s create a strong community bond that encourages safety and awareness. Remember, a proactive approach is our best defense against crime. It takes a village to protect each other, and together we can ensure that Asheville remains a haven for all its residents.
