Arden, N.C. Shines Bright with Christmas Spirit

Arden, North Carolina, is buzzing with excitement as the holiday season approaches, and this year, the community spirit shines brighter than ever! On December 12, a truckload of joy rolled into the Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (ABCCM) warehouse, filled to the brim with toys intended to bring smiles to children’s faces this Christmas.

Spreading Joy Through Generosity

The heartwarming initiative comes from Saint Mary Catholic Church in Leipsic, Ohio. Every year, this church organizes a special service project during the holiday season aimed at spreading cheer. This time, after the ravaging impact of Hurricane Helene, the members felt compelled to lend a helping hand to those in need in Western North Carolina.

After some research, the church leaders discovered ABCCM’s Christmas Angel Program, which perfectly aligned with their mission to help children during the festive season. With a determination to make this holiday memorable, they rolled up their sleeves, starting a collection drive for toys to support the program.

The Toy Parade Arrives

The excitement culminated on that Thursday afternoon when a semi-truck, eagerly awaited by volunteers and community members, delivered a staggering number of toys. “We originally planned to bring a trailer,” shared Father Randy Giesige from Saint Mary Catholic Church, his eyes sparkling with joy. “But the response was so overwhelming that we just couldn’t fit it all!”

The community’s generosity didn’t stop there. Donations poured in, totaling a remarkable $23,000, which Father Giesige used to embark on a month-long shopping spree. “Oh, it was a lot of fun!” he laughed, recalling the shopping adventures. His enthusiasm was palpable as he continued, “We’re just excited to help the kids here. It’s about bringing a little joy and hope into their lives.”

Making an Impact Beyond Toys

The gifts collected this year are valued at nearly $100,000. This incredible value represents more than just toys; it represents the collective love and commitment from individuals who believe in the spirit of giving. Each toy serves as a beacon of hope for children, reminding them that even in tough times, there are people who care.

ABCCM has been actively involved in supporting the community, especially during times of crisis. As the organization works tirelessly to provide refuge and resources amid the increased need following Hurricane Helene, initiatives like the Christmas Angel Program become essential lifelines for the community. The toys collected will play a significant role in lifting spirits as families navigate through challenging times.

A Community That Cares

As the holiday season nears its peak, the sense of camaraderie and compassion in Arden, N.C., is truly inspiring. Local heroes, such as the dedicated volunteers from both the church and ABCCM, exemplify what it means to care for one another. Their efforts shine a light on the true meaning of Christmas—bringing joy and hope to those who need it most.

In a world that sometimes feels overwhelmed by challenges, this heartwarming act of kindness reminds us all of the joy that can be found in giving. It serves as a gentle nudge that in our efforts to support each other, we can inspire change and create happiness for countless children and families.

So this Christmas, as you unwrap your presents and gather with loved ones, take a moment to reflect on the spirit of giving that thrives in Arden. It’s a festive reminder that together, we can all contribute to a brighter, more joyful community.
