Welcome Back to A-B Tech: Classes Resuming After Hurricane Helene

Asheville, NC – It’s been a challenging few weeks for the students and staff at A-B Tech Community College. The community has been resilient through the impacts of Hurricane Helene, but the wait is finally over! Starting Monday, October 28, A-B Tech is back in action, ready to welcome students for both in-person and online classes.

What’s Happening?

After a month-long closure due to the hurricane, A-B Tech is thrilled to announce the reopening of all its programs. The college’s campuses now have power, internet services, and access to non-potable water, allowing both academic and continuing education classes to resume without further disruption.

The excitement in the air is palpable, as students are eager to return to their studies. Whether you’re enrolled in traditional classes or taking part in adult education programs, you can expect to dive back into your courses soon. However, it’s important for everyone to stay informed. A-B Tech has encouraged students and staff to keep an eye on text alerts, emails, and the Moodle learning management system for any updates regarding class schedules and formats.

Early Resumption of Key Programs

Before the full reopening, some programs were quick to get back to business. Those in the Emergency Services, Allied Health, and Nursing cohorts have already resumed classes, along with several Career Technical Education (CTE) programs. This early start demonstrates A-B Tech’s commitment to ensuring that crucial training in these vital areas continues with minimal delays.

Focus on Well-being

The college isn’t just prioritizing academics; they are also focused on the well-being and safety of their students and employees. To gauge the impact of the hurricane on the community, A-B Tech is conducting online well-being surveys. This initiative is a great move, allowing the institution to better understand the challenges faced by individuals and provide the necessary support during this recovery phase.

Community Support and Resources

As A-B Tech reopens, community resources are more important than ever. For those affected by the storm, information and support can be found at abtech.edu/helene-recovery. In addition, keeping up with the college’s daily updates through their Facebook and Instagram pages will ensure that everyone stays in the loop regarding any changes or announcements.

A Warm Welcome

This reopening is a fantastic opportunity for students to reconnect with their campuses and their peers. A-B Tech’s President, John Gossett, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We’re excited to welcome everyone back, but the safety and well-being of our students and employees will continue to be our top priority.” His commitment to the community clearly reflects the shared optimism that is blossoming as classes resume.

Looking Ahead

As Asheville bounces back from the effects of Hurricane Helene, students and staff alike are looking ahead to what promises to be an enriching educational experience. With the college fully operational once more, students can focus on their studies, engage with their instructors, and participate in a thriving academic community.

So mark your calendars for Monday, October 28, and get ready to return to A-B Tech! Whether it’s attending classes, reconnecting with friends, or diving into new learning experiences, the campus is ready to embrace everyone once again.

Remember to stay informed and utilize the resources available to you. Together, we can all move forward from this chapter and create new memories at A-B Tech.
