Cloudy Days Bring Community Spirit and Support Initiatives in Asheville

Cloudy Days and Community Spirit in Asheville

Good morning, Asheville! It looks like we’re in for a cloudy morning with a sprinkle of sunshine later in the day. Today’s high will reach about 55°F, thanks to some gentle northwest winds blowing around 10 to 15 mph. As we settle down for the night, we can expect a few clouds and a cozy low of 39°F. Perfect weather for staying in with a warm drink!

Attention All Asheville Water Customers!

Before you fill your glass, remember that a Boil Water Notice is still in effect for all water customers in Asheville. Recent readings show the turbidity at the North Fork Reservoir has reached its peak at 17.4. Fortunately, the reservoir is now capable of delivering an impressive 19 million gallons of water per day. There’s a third round of in-reservoir treatment planned for this week to ensure our water quality improves. Additionally, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded an interim pre-treatment project right here, which is a fantastic step towards enhancing our water system.

Honoring Community Heroes at the Swannanoa Valley Museum

In uplifting news, the Swannanoa Valley Museum is changing its 2025 exhibit to reflect the inspiring community spirit we witnessed following Hurricane Helene. They’ll honor local heroes who stepped up during the tough times in a new exhibit titled, Strength & Community: Swannanoa Valley Strong. If you want to share stories or photos from this heartfelt chapter, the museum invites you to connect with them. You can call 828-669-9566 or visit their online form to participate. This is a great chance to remember how we all came together!

Give the Gift of Life

Over at AdventHealth, there’s an important blood drive happening today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Due to a recent shortfall in blood donations following Tropical Storm Helene, every donation counts! You can save up to three lives with just one donation. Plus, you’ll receive a $40 e-gift card as a thank you. If you’re interested, just scan the QR code at AdventHealth or look for Sponsor Code 23AC.

Parking Updates for Asheville Residents

For those driving into town, good news! Parking is currently free in all city garages and metered spots. As we gear up for the holidays, it’s a great time to support our local shops by keeping the on-street parking available for short-term visitors. Just a gentle reminder to use designated, accessible spaces correctly.

A Night of Art and Expression

Don’t miss out on “Wise Words Open Mic!” taking place on November 19th, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.. This is a fantastic opportunity for beginners and seasoned artists alike to showcase their talents. Whether it’s poetry, storytelling, or singing, everyone is welcome! For more information, feel free to call 507-3444 or shoot an email to tmauldin@ashevillenc.gov.

Celebrate with the Asheville Dispensary

The Asheville Dispensary and Elixir Bar is throwing a celebration for its sixth anniversary on November 16th, from 2 to 9 p.m.. There will be plenty of festivities including vendors, live entertainment, classes, and food from the Smokin’ Onion Food Truck. They’re also collecting donations for Beloved Asheville and will match all contributions. So, come join the fun while supporting a good cause!

Helping Homeowners in Need

If you’re a homeowner affected by Hurricane Helene, Buncombe County is reopening applications for the 2024 Homeowner Grant Program. This grant can provide financial assistance for housing-related costs, such as taxes or mortgage payments. Applications are open until November 15th, so don’t wait! You can get more information by visiting their website or calling 828-250-5500.

Dogwood’s Generous Relief Funding

In a show of community support, Dogwood has announced an additional $20 million in relief funding, totaling over $50 million for our region. This funding aims to provide vital support for families, health services, and our small businesses, especially those affected by the recent storm. Many local organizations will help distribute these funds, so we can all take part in uplifting our community.

As we step into another day in Asheville, let’s remember that our spirit and resilience shine brightest when we come together. Have a lovely day, everyone!
