It’s an exciting time here in Asheville, North Carolina, as the Asheville Regional Airport has resumed commercial flights! We’re thrilled to share that operations began again on Tuesday, September 30. So, if you’ve been waiting to book a trip or just catch a flight, now’s your chance!
Although flights have resumed, please keep in mind that not all scheduled flights are up and running just yet. Unfortunately, due to some lingering internet issues, the airport isn’t able to post flight statuses on its website. However, the good news is that the airport spokesperson, Tina Kinsey, has recommended a simple solution. She advises, “It’s really important for passengers to get in contact with their particular airline, check their flight status before coming to the airport.” This can easily be done online, via a phone call, or through the airline’s app.
Another heartening aspect of the airport’s return to operations is its role in aiding the community. Relief supplies are being flown in by FEMA, assisting those affected by recent challenges in the area. However, the airport is not a distribution site, so if you’re looking for supplies, they kindly ask you to visit the official distribution sites instead. Kinsey shared, “We are a lifeline for a lot of that coming into the community. Our team has worked around the clock to keep this airport operational so that we can really support the region in that way.” She expressed pride in how the airport staff is working tirelessly to help get these supplies to where they need to go.
It has notably been a tough time for everyone in the region, and the airport is no exception. Kinsey explained that communications have been difficult due to phone line outages. Updates have been shared through their Facebook page, so travelers are encouraged to spread the word: the more information, the better! Additionally, the airport has created an FAQs page on its website, so travelers can find answers to some common queries.
As of Tuesday morning, it appears that parking lots at the airport are close to full. If you’re planning to travel, it’s best to arrange for a ride to the airport whenever possible. Do keep in mind that rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are also facing fuel shortages, so adjust your plans accordingly.
For those of you looking to rent a car, things are still a bit challenging. With the internet issues in the region, it might be complicated to find rentals. Kinsey indicated that if you’ve pre-booked on a rental car company’s app for a premium product, you may still be able to pick up your vehicle at the airport. Also, rental car returns can still happen at the airport, which is good news!
The airport team has remained dedicated to keeping operations running smoothly, with many staff members working long hours, often without even having seen their families or assessed the damage to their own homes. Kinsey could not praise her team enough, stating, “We have an amazing team here at the airport. The commitment they show to help get people where they need to go is incredible. We are immensely proud of the Asheville airport team.”
So, whether you’re flying into or out of Asheville, or just need to share this information, we hope this overview helps you plan your travels! Safe travels, everyone, and let’s give a big round of applause to our dedicated airport staff for their hard work during these challenging times.
