Local entrepreneurs Rick Weber and Kenny Pike, who have spent the last seven years running 360 Dock and Deck LLC, are channeling their resources into a compassionate cause that resonates deeply within the community.

A Business Transforming into a Lifeline

As you drive down Wessinger Road, you can’t miss the vibrant scene outside their business. An open trailer decorated with a spray-painted neon sign reading “Asheville Donations” catches the eye, showcasing the duo’s new mission. Inside, you can see Pike diligently sorting through pallets stacked high with essentials like water, paper towels, and other necessities, all bound for hurricane victims in North Carolina.

“We do everything from floating docks, boat lifts, and gazebos,” shared Weber, reflecting on their usual business operations. But now, they have placed those activities on hold to focus on filling their trailer with vital supplies. “Kenny and I were watching Facebook and seeing posts… people trying to help. We decided to try to use some of the resources we have access to get some supplies up to Asheville and other surrounding areas that got impacted,” he added.

Community Involvement Sparks Hope

The response from the Chapin community has been nothing short of inspiring. People from all walks of life have driven to the warehouse, filling up the space with generous donations. Weber mentioned they are collecting essential items such as water, diapers, and paper towels at their location on Old Lexington Road and are also welcoming monetary donations. “If there’s enough support, we’ll empty them and do it again,” he stated with determination.

Weber shared his motivation, stating, “We just kind of felt compelled to do it. We were without power for four days, and it was an inconvenience. But these people lost houses, lost family members. We are just trying to do what we can.” This overwhelming sense of empathy shines through as they dedicate their time and resources to lift the spirits of those in need.

Rallying the Next Generation

What makes this effort even more heartwarming is the involvement of family. Pike’s daughter actively helps her dad as he sorts items, while Weber’s son assists in loading supplies. “We have four kids,” Weber noted as he pointed to his children nearby. “We live here in Chapin – and you know, we’re just trying to teach them the right thing to do. Trying to teach them to help your community.” This experience is not just about helping others; it is also about instilling values of compassion and community service in the younger generation.

A Rapidly Growing Effort

The organic growth of this charitable effort is quite remarkable. Just 12 hours after they initiated the drive, they have set up systems to manage donations, including a new Venmo account to collect funds for purchasing more supplies. “Some of my employees are at Publix now, we’re at Walmart buying things,” Weber explained, clearly impressed by how swiftly the community has come together. “It’s been fantastic. They’ve shared our posts in all the different groups,” he added with gratitude.

Now, these men, who usually spend their time constructing docks, are using their skills to deliver hope where it is most needed. By transforming their business trailer into a vessel of kindness, they are bridging the gap between their community and those affected by disaster, showcasing the power of unity and compassion.
