WOODFIN, N.C. – If you were planning to take I-26 westbound this morning, you might want to think again! A crash last night has led to some delays that are still affecting drivers this Friday. The accident occurred around 10:11 p.m. near Mile Marker 23, just north of Asheville, and while one lane has thankfully reopened, the right lane is still out of commission for the time being.
According to reports from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), the incident involved two vehicles and took place close to the Old Marshall Highway Bridge. Eyewitness accounts suggested that one of the cars may have even gone over the guardrail, which adds a concerning note to the whole situation. Thankfully, authorities have stated that the environmental impacts from the crash have been minimal.
For those commuters trying to get to work on this lovely Friday morning, the headache just got a bit more intense. As of now, the right lane on I-26 West remains closed and is not expected to reopen until around 12 p.m.. One lane was reopened earlier today around 9 a.m., but it’s still causing significant congestion and delays.
To help you navigate the situation, drivers are advised to take Exit 23 (US 19 BUS). After taking this exit, make a right turn, followed by a left onto Weaverville Road (US 19 BUS). Then, make another left onto New Stock Road to re-access I-26 West. It’s a bit of a detour, but it could save you some time in the long run, especially if you’re in a hurry.
We’ve reached out to Woodfin Police for additional details about the accident and are eager to hear more. As always, we will keep you updated as we receive more information. In the meantime, if you’re on the road, be sure to stay safe and drive cautiously around the area.
Even though this traffic incident is certainly inconvenient, it’s crucial for everyone to remember the importance of being careful on the roads. Accidents can happen in the blink of an eye, and safety must always come first! So if you see any activity that looks suspicious, or if you happen upon an accident scene, remember to exercise caution and give emergency responders the space they need to do their job.
Finally, if you spot any breaking news in the area, don’t hesitate to whip out your phone and share any photos or videos you take to help keep everyone informed. Every bit helps when it comes to keeping our community safe and informed!
In closing, remember to stay tuned for more updates on this situation and make sure to take that detour if you’re heading out. Here’s hoping for a smoother drive ahead!
