Asheville’s Doors Open Downtown Initiative Spreads Joy and Support Amid Recovery Efforts

Asheville Businesses Reconnect Through Doors Open Downtown Initiative

Ah, beautiful Asheville! Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, our city is known for its vibrant arts scene, stunning views, and rich history. But after recent storms, many local businesses faced tough times. Thankfully, our community is coming together to support those that weathered the storm—literally!

Healing and Recovery through Community Support

The Executive Director of a local initiative, Hayden Plemmons, shared an inspiring goal: “help facilitate healing and encourage support for our local businesses as we work toward recovery.” This sentiment reflects a growing movement to breathe life back into our downtown area, and it’s heartwarming to see so many people rallying together for a common cause.

What’s Happening?

Mark your calendars for two special Saturdays, October 19 and October 26. The Asheville Downtown Association is rolling out a delightful initiative called Doors Open Downtown. This simple yet impactful concept allows businesses to display a red balloon on their doors, signaling that they are open for customers. It’s like a warm welcome mat inviting everyone to stroll downtown, rediscover their favorite spots, and explore new ones!

Participating business owners can grab their bright red balloons from a few pick-up locations including the Downtown Association office, Horse and Hero, or Citizen Vinyl. With these balloons swaying in the autumn breeze, residents and visitors alike will know where to find open doors and friendly faces.

Get Ready for Halloween Fun!

But wait, there’s more! As we approach the end of October, get ready for a spooky and fun-filled celebration. On October 31, downtown will transform into a festive Halloween Block Party! From 4 to 7 p.m., families can take their little ghouls and goblins trick-or-treating at participating businesses. Imagine the excitement of the kids as they wander around in their costumes, receiving treats from their favorite stores!

The evening promises more than just candy! There will be live music to set the mood, enriching our local culture yet again. Families can also join in on kids’ activities, making this event enjoyable for everyone. Plus, let’s not forget our furry friends—there’s a dog costume contest! So don’t leave your pup at home; bring them along to join in the Halloween spirit.

A Call to Action

Doors Open Downtown and the Halloween Block Party, we can show our support for the businesses that shape our community and contribute to making Asheville such a unique place to live. Whether you’re a long-time resident or a visitor on holiday, your presence will surely make a difference.

So let’s take to the streets, celebrate our resilience, and make every Saturday count! Together, we can help restore the heartbeat of Asheville. Grab your family, a friend, or even your four-legged companion, and let’s fill our downtown with laughter, joy, and the spirit of togetherness. After all, every balloon represents not just an open door, but a community ready to welcome you with open arms!
