Not only will the April 8 total solar eclipse be an opportune time to head outdoors in Western North Carolina, but it may also be a chance to score a deal on a cold beverage, food, or new ice cream flavors. Several local breweries, a local ice cream parlor, and several national chains with Asheville locations have been preparing for the rare celestial event with new products, day-of deals, and in some cases, free eclipse glasses. Asheville is expected to see around 85% of the eclipse, according to NASA.
Here’s a list of different deals, events, and new products being offered in the Asheville area prior to or during the eclipse.
Archetype Brewing at 265 Haywood Road is opening up early at 2 p.m. on April 8 to host a rooftop brewing party that will include a $4 beer special courtesy of Cue the Sun, the brewery announced. The party comes with complimentary eclipse viewing glasses as they play a curated playlist they describe as “out of this world.”
The Whale at 507 Haywood Road will be hosting an eclipse-viewing party from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Attendees will receive viewing glasses as the brewery pours $5 Pivo Pils pints.
Fairview’s Turgua Brewing Co. at 3131 Cane Creek Road will hold a viewing party at 2 p.m. on April 8 for the eclipse, where the brewery will be handing out a limited number of viewing glasses.
Highland Brewing’s Rooftop is holding a public 2 p.m. event for the Great American Eclipse. The brewery will hand out eclipse glasses to the first 100 guests.
The Hop Ice Cream has made a new flavor, called “Solar Eclipse Ice Cream,” which released April 5. The flavor is exclusively at its 640 Merrimon Ave. location, where it will remain on the menu as long as supplies last.
Sonic Drive-In is serving up the new Blackout Slush Float, available until May 5. The eclipse special merges flavors of cotton candy and dragon fruit and is topped with white soft-serve ice cream and blue and purple galaxy-themed sprinkles.
A new Total Solar Eclipse Doughnut is available from April 5 to April 8 at Krispy Kreme stores. The doughnut takes an original glazed doughnut, dips it in black chocolate icing, and tops it with silver sprinkles, buttercream frosting, Oreo pieces, and a whole Oreo cookie.
Pizza Hut will be offering large pizzas for $12 on April 8, the day of the eclipse. You can create your own pizza (up to 10 toppings) or order any of Pizza Hut’s recipe pizzas, as well as Thin ‘N Crispy, Hand Tossed Pizza, and Original Pan Pizza.
Smoothie King is offering a new “Eclipse Berry Blitz” drink until April 8, made with bananas, wild blueberries, apples, blueberry juice blend, white grape lemon juice blend, protein blend, and blue spirulina, a blue-green algae powder. Customers who buy the drink at a location within the path of the solar eclipse will receive free Smoothie King-branded eclipse glasses.
On April 8, members of Burger King’s Royal Perks loyalty program can get a special buy-one-get-one-free Whopper by texting ECLIPSE to 251251. The special runs from April 8 to April 15, redeemable in the BK app or Burger King Website.
