Hello Asheville! If you’re looking for fun, engaging activities this September, you’re in luck! Our vibrant community offers a variety of events tailored for everyone, especially for our seniors and families. So grab your calendars and note these fantastic happenings!
Kick off the fall season with a Senior Exercise Party on Thursday, September 19, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the Burton Street Community Center, located at 134 Burton Street. It’s a great opportunity to break a sweat with fellow active adults, and best of all, it’s free!
On Saturday, September 21, get ready for an evening of fun at the Sneaker Ball, happening from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center. Dress up your sneakers with your best ball gown or tuxedo for a night filled with music and dancing. Don’t forget to register at www.avlREC.com – you don’t want to miss this!
Also on September 21, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., join your neighbors for a Community Clean Up Walk. We’ll gather at the Burton Street Community Center to beautify our outdoor spaces. Gloves and trash bags will be provided, but feel free to bring your own gear if you’d like. Afterward, we’ll celebrate our hard work with some refreshments and good conversation – all free! Don’t forget to register in advance!
On Thursday, September 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., venture out for a delightful day of apple picking at Jeter Mountain Farms. Located in the picturesque Henderson County, this trip will not only include apple picking but also lessons about the season and stunning views. Perfect for adults 18 and over, the cost is just $2 (plus the cost of your food and drinks). Be sure to register ahead of time!
After you’ve pampered yourself with apples, get ready for a little friendly competition at the Cornhole Tournament on the same day, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Grove Street Community Center. Grab a partner and show off your cornhole skills! Registration is required, so sign up as a team or as an individual.
The month is packed with even more activities aimed at seniors! Enjoy Senior Dining at the Grove Street Community Center during weekdays, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It’s a perfect chance to socialize while enjoying a nutritious meal. Registration is needed, so don’t hesitate to reach out.
If you’re looking to get active, many classes are available! Join the Adult Fitness for Beginners series every Wednesday until November 13, focusing on weight lifting and cardio from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Alternatively, attend the Balance, Agility, Strength, Stretch class every Tuesday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Harvest House.
