Hey there, Mars Hill friends! If you’re looking for some great activities to dive into, you’re in luck! Our lovely town is buzzing with various events that are perfect for everyone, whether you’re a student, a local resident, or just passing through. Here’s a rundown of what’s happening over the next few days.

Monday, October 28

Start your week with the Lunch & Learn with David LaMotte at 12 p.m. in Bentley Fellowship Hall. Grab some delicious Moe’s tacos while listening to David, an inspiring author, speaker, and peacebuilder. He’ll be discussing how to build community and foster peace, even in challenging times. This is hosted by the MHU Rotaract Club, and everyone is welcome, so come hungry!

Later that evening, at 7:30 p.m. in Broyhill Chapel, enjoy the Helene Relief Concert featuring David LaMotte again. Admission is free, but feel free to donate to the Madison County Rotary Club’s Helene Relief Fund. Your generosity will surely help many!

Tuesday, October 29

If you’re looking for a moment of serenity, swing by the True North Chapel Service at 11 a.m. in Broyhill Chapel. These weekly services are designed to refresh your spirit and help you reconnect with what matters most in your life.

Later in the evening, the Criminal Justice Career Fair from 6-8 p.m. in Guffey Commons of Day Hall will be a fantastic opportunity for criminal justice majors. Local agencies will be present to help attendees navigate their potential career paths in law enforcement.

Wednesday, October 30

Join us for a creative experience at the “A Community Rewoven” Art Workshop from 6-7:30 p.m. in Marshbanks Hall Room 103. This is part of an Intro to Art Therapy class where you can express yourself artistically in response to Hurricane Helene. No prior art experience is needed! Your creations will be sewn into a beautiful community quilt.

Thursday, October 31

Get ready for some Halloween fun! The Trunk or Treat event, hosted by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, will take place from 4-7 p.m. on College Street & Main Street. Local teams will be dressed up and handing out candy to kids, providing a safe and exciting way for families to celebrate Halloween!

Friday, November 1

As the week winds down, head to First Friday in Downtown Mars Hill from 5-8 p.m.. This monthly event is a great place to meet local businesses, enjoy face painting, henna tattoos, and even a bouncy house! Don’t miss the Reception for “What Light Knows” Exhibition in the Weizenblatt Gallery at the same time. The exhibition features fascinating work by Asheville artist Anna Helgeson and explores deep subjects through photography and mixed media. The exhibition will run until December 6.

Saturday, November 2

Sports enthusiasts won’t want to miss the MHU Athletics Hall of Fame Induction during halftime of the football game at Meares Stadium. Two incredible athletes, Hudson Tucker and Jonas Randolph, will be honored. Tucker is the first swimmer ever inducted into MHU’s Hall of Fame, while Randolph holds numerous rushing records in Mars Hill football history.

Sunday, November 3

Finally, wrap up the weekend with a Student Recital featuring senior voice student Raegan Metcalf at 7:30 p.m. in Broyhill Chapel. It’s a great way to support our talented students in their musical endeavors.
