Exciting Events Coming to Mars Hill University!

If you’re in the Mars Hill area, get ready for a week brimming with fantastic events hosted by Mars Hill University that are open to everyone in the community! Whether you’re an art lover, a music enthusiast, or just someone looking to enjoy a good time, there’s something for everyone. Let’s dive into what’s happening!

Art Workshop: A Community Rewoven

Kick off your week on Monday, November 11, with an engaging art workshop titled “A Community Rewoven.” From 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Blue Lounge at the Wren Student Union, you can join the Intro to Art Therapy class in creating individual pieces of art that will be combined into a large community quilt. It’s a unique opportunity to express yourself and contribute to a meaningful project, especially in response to the challenges brought by Hurricane Helene. Don’t worry if you have no prior art experience—everyone is welcome!

True North Chapel Service

On Tuesday, November 12, take some time for personal reflection at the True North Chapel Service happening at 11 a.m. in Broyhill Chapel. This weekly service invites you to refresh your spirit and focus on what matters most in life.

Later that evening from 5:30 to 8 p.m., join the Ramsey Center for Appalachian Studies for a fun-filled holiday potluck! Bring a finger food to share, enjoy an old-time jam session with the band Sourwood Ridge, and make your own holiday ornaments. Supplies will be provided, so come and get creative while enjoying some local tunes!

Blood Drive

On Wednesday, November 13, consider making a difference in someone’s life by donating blood. The Blood Connection will be conducting a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of Broyhill Chapel. Appointments are available every 15 minutes, so it’s easy to fit this important act of kindness into your day.

The Geometry of Privacy

Later that night, at 7 p.m. in the Belk Auditorium, join for an insightful lecture titled “The Geometry of Privacy” by renowned mathematician Francis Su. This event is part of the annual Parsons Lecture series, so do not miss this opportunity to learn about how mathematics influences privacy protection in technology used by major companies like Apple and Google.

Senior Visit Day

Are you or someone you know considering college? On Saturday, November 16, Senior Visit Day is the perfect chance to explore what life at Mars Hill University has to offer! From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., prospective students will get to tour the campus, ask current students about their experiences, and engage with faculty and staff. What a wonderful way to envision your future!

Weekly True North Chapel Services Continue

On Tuesday, November 19, the True North Chapel Service will take place again at 11 a.m. in Broyhill Chapel for anyone looking to rejuvenate their spirit.

Jazz Ensembles Concert

Later that evening at 7:30 p.m., head over to Moore Auditorium for a lively concert featuring the MHU Department of Music’s Jazz Ensembles. It promises to be an entertaining night filled with great tunes!

Square Dance and Holiday Concert

Don’t miss the Square Dance at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, held in The Loft. With no experience required, this evening will include live music by caller Rodney Sutton. It’s a perfect chance to enjoy a bit of old-time fun! Then, on Friday, November 22, join the Music Department for their annual Holiday Concert at 7:30 p.m. in Moore Auditorium, where you’ll also get a chance to sing the famous Hallelujah Chorus!

Ongoing Exhibition and Upcoming Art Call

If you’re an art lover, don’t forget to stop by the Weizenblatt Gallery to check out the ongoing exhibition “What Light Knows” by Anna Helgeson, running through December 6. Plus, if you’re an artist, mark your calendars for the upcoming exhibition “Ghosts from Helene” that calls for art inspired by Hurricane Helene, with a deadline for entries on December 6, 2024.

Support Mountain Lions Athletics

Lastly, for sports fans, check out some of the upcoming home athletic events and support Mountain Lions Athletics! With volleyball and basketball games lined up, there’s plenty of action to enjoy in the coming weeks!

So whether you choose to create, reflect, or simply enjoy great music, Mars Hill University has a little something for everyone in the community this month! Be sure to mark your calendars and join in on the fun!
