Exciting Growth at UNC Asheville: Fall 2024 Enrollment Reaches Third-Highest in History

Exciting Times in Asheville: A Booming Fall Enrollment at UNC

Big Asheville is buzzing with excitement as the University of North Carolina Asheville rolls into an impressive fall 2024 semester! This year marks a significant milestone for the university, as the incoming class of new students is the third-largest in its history. With 1,027 newly enrolled students seeking degrees, it’s hard not to feel the energy and enthusiasm building on campus.

Enrollment Growth: A Positive Trend

It appears that students are eager to be part of the vibrant UNC Asheville community. The university has seen a 15.5% increase in new first-time student enrollment compared to last year. And if we look back two years, that number skyrockets to a remarkable 43.6% increase! This influx of students has helped push the total fall semester enrollment to 3,055, marking a 4.4% increase from just last year. It’s incredible to witness such a comeback, especially after a challenging five-year period that saw enrollment decline nearly 25%.

Thanks to the Campus Community

Chancellor Kimberly van Noort shared her enthusiasm about this growth, stating, “Our progress in reversing earlier enrollment declines is a testament to how the campus community is collaborating to welcome more students.” The sense of teamwork and commitment among faculty, staff, and current students has led to an increase in the demand for a UNC Asheville education.

Record Applications: What’s Driving the Interest?

One of the key factors contributing to this surge in enrollment is the remarkable number of applications the university has received. UNC Asheville welcomed a record-breaking total of 7,914 first-time and transfer applications, which represents a stunning 72.4% increase from two years ago! Transfer applications also showed solid growth, climbing by 23.9%. These numbers reflect a growing interest in the diverse programs and opportunities the university has to offer.

Access Asheville: Supporting Students Financially

Another vital element in this success story is the introduction of the Access Asheville financial aid program. This initiative has significantly impacted enrollment, bringing in 216 new first-time and transfer students. The Access Asheville program guarantees full tuition and fees—currently valued at $7,501—for qualifying North Carolina residents whose family-adjusted gross income is $80,000 or less. This program aims to remove financial barriers for students, ensuring that higher education is accessible to those who need it most.

A Bright Future Ahead

As fall settles in and students immerse themselves in campus life, the air is filled with excitement and potential. This year’s remarkable enrollment numbers not only demonstrate the resilience and dedication of the UNC Asheville community but also suggest that the university is on a promising trajectory toward continued growth and success.

If you’re curious about what UNC Asheville has to offer or if you or someone you know is interested in becoming part of this thriving community, now is a great time to explore your options! It’s an exciting new chapter for students and the university alike. Here’s to a fruitful fall semester filled with learning, growth, and opportunities!
